Pixilation Ideas

i thought it would be good to also experiment with using the plasticine i bought, i decided to make a character with it and then manipulate it by moving the arms and limbs so that it looks like its is moving, and it is a lot easier to use and hold in certain positions.

once i created the bear i wasted to give him something a bit different so i gave him a 'wheres wally' hat, this also gives me options to use the hat as a prop of some sort and use it in the animation.

for the clip i wanted to put the bear with a different background and see if he stood out or what he looked like, thought the plain white background was good for shadows and things but i wanted something a bit different so i put the latest vice magazine behind it. i only made a short clip and he are some of the photos.

this is only very simple showing the bear scratching its ear, i have made other ones where i walks around and things. once i have done them on adobe premier i will put them up on here for you to see.

i was happy with the outcome of the video, i could have kept it going but i felt that was the right place to stop as i could have gone on and on. there isnt really a limite with using plactacine you can pretty much do anything.
the music i added, some might say it doesnt really go.... i could agree in a way but i wanted mine to be a bit different the music almost to be sounds a bit canival, but also a bit different. i edited the music a bit so that it changes and adds a different beat when the umbrella flys away just to add a drama to the video.

Pixilation Ideas

experimenting with the human form, using an actual person to create the clip.
some problems i found using this were-
  • not enough slides per second for certain parts.
  • use of a tripod isn't necessary depending on what type of style you want.
  • lighting and flash is important.

i didn't use enough takes for the cigarette coming out of the buzzer button, slowed down it worked well but it needs more for when it is speeds up rather than just a quick flash through.

i quite liked the way the pictures came out without a tripod, i like the sort of style and ruggedness that the movement gives on top of the jitteriness which i think works really well as a hole.

lighting is important, i kept putting my hand in front of the flash so i would get a dark Shadow in the picture, but on the other hand when the lighting changes slightly it gives the clip move of a flickery aspect to it which i quite like almost a flashing effect.

these are just some of the pictures i have taken in a slide form, as an experiment.

i have always really liked photography with smoke and people smoking, all the old black and white ones. so i was thinking of a way to incorporate that into this prodject, this would just be a starter and the basis. the actual clip would have more of the girl walking around and things in it.

Pixilation animation

iv been looking at a few different ways to approach this, to create a short video/clip in the most effective way, perhaps using an actual person, Lego or play-doh.
the problem with using a person is that it is very time consuming and you have to be patient so the person must be available for a long period of tim
e and perhaps not lose interest quickly, otherwise the clip will come out poorly.

one of my favourite music videos is 'her morning elegance' by Oren Lavie, I'm not sure what exactly it is about it but i remember the first time i saw it i really liked it, because for a music video it is a bit different. i just really liked how it was all done on a flat base, the way they walk just everything about the video as a hole. the part i like the most is the jumpiness that the stop motion affect gives to the video, just gives it a bit of an edge a sort of quirkiness.

i would really like to do something like this as i think it would look the most effective as a finished product.

i have also been looking at the Lego pixilation and i think they make the movement look rather interesting again a lot of effort is needed but the final outcome would be worth it, looking at all the covers of games ant thing people have done with the Lego show me that there is a wide rang of pathways, there isn't that much you cant do with Lego in terms of making objects and i quite like the jagged effect the blocks gives to make a curve.

the other part i was looking at was using play-doh/plasticine and creating a character, and using him to make the video doing anything you want him to really. creating a small story if you like.
i first started thinking about the orange play-doh men which were on an art channel like Smart or Art Attack. i couldn't find anything on them though, so i started looking as more famous things like 'Wallace and gromit'. the idea of using this material is that it is easily moulded into any shape, thick, thin, long, short and it is generally quite sturdy so that certain movements become easier to obtain rather than having to hold the object and editing your hand out or the piece of string holding your object up.

Whiteboard Animations

Making a movie isn't as hard as you think, well you don't need all these big special cameras used to film people for films, you can simply create a smaller film using only a whiteboard, camera and pens. the process is actually quite demanding even tho it looks simple.

i suppose you couldn't really make a perfectly flowing movie but personally i like the jumpiness this brings to the animation.

using the stop motion or flip book technique, we had to create a clip or whatever you want to call it of someone/thing getting around a house. in are group we decided to create something which would give us a lot of detail like a jack in the box, which possibly wasn't the best idea because we started slowing moving things cm by cm, and keep rubbing them out the detail part became quite hard to contain, the time was against us and as we tried to make everything perfect it takes a time to create a perfect clip. another important point is to make sure that the camera and the white board do not move otherwise the hole picture moves slightly and can sometimes make it look wrong.

i realise if you are going to do an animation like this one you have to give yourself lots of time, then you can for fill the detail and perfect motion which everyone wants to obtain on these clips.

Pinhole Camera

Using a beer can, duck tape, can opener, and some card we made a camera. iv never seen or heard of this method before....
to take a picture with a homemade camera with no digital or special soft wear needed is a pretty uncommon thing to come across these days with everything so technology based.
a pinhole camera doesn't need a lens to work it simply needs light to pass through a single small point into the lightproof space (weather that be a can or box) onto the opposite side of the space were the photo paper with be.

you keep the pinhole closed until you have chosen what or were you want your picture, then you need to hold in a steady position preferably against something so it is sturdy. uncover the pinhole for 8- 10 seconds then recover the pinhole.
take the camera with the hole covered to a dark room and go through the processes until you get your picture then once it had been in all the solutions its taken to get blow dried.

we repeated this a number of times to see how good we could get the picture to be. after going through the darkroom processes we put the pictures on photo shop and inverted the photos to create a better picture.

the problems people had doing this was not leaving enough exposure time or leaving to much.

these are a couple of my own, as you can see the first is a lot better to the second and this i due to the fact i didn't use a steady platform for the second picture hence why is it blurry and not that good.
